Full Details
Llanddeusant is one of 5 youth hostels in the Brecon Beacons National Park. This hostel has a wonderful rural setting, being in the west of the Beacons National Park. This is one of the least developed areas and is a favorite with small groups, walkers, cyclists and families wanting a quiet break. The YHA leased the building in 1939 and actually purchased the building in 1945, having the first working party there in 1947.

This hostel is a former inn built in 1789 by Lewis Thomas and retains some of its original features and is adjacent to a 14th century church. The ancient hamlet of Llanddeusant over looks the magical Sawdde valley, which leads up to the legendary Llyn-y-Fan glacial lake and the heights of the Carmarthen Vans.

Llanddeusant provides one of the most spectacular areas for walkers either for long distance energetic walks or short strolls to enjoy the varied flora and fauna of this largely unspoiled area. The hostel is a self-catering hostel and has a part-time manager with volunteers assisting during the summer season, in the winter months it also operates a successful Rent-a-Hostel (0870 241 2314), which is becoming more popular due to the location and tranquility.

All the hard work and dedication that has been put into the building and grounds has now paid off as Llanddeusant now has a WTB 3 star grading.

The west end of the Brecon Beacons National Park and east Carmarthenshire are peaceful areas where you can find your own pace. This region is steeped in history and culture with fascinating sites from the Stone Age to recent times, including Iron Age hill forts and humble small churches such as Llanddeusant.

There is a selection of circular walks, which can be borrowed from the youth hostel. These include visits to lakes, roman camps, standing stones, castles and an Iron Age hill fort.

Carreg Cennen Castle and Castle Farm.
