The Environment

The Environment
South West Wales outdoor activity operators want to ensure that our region continues to be recognised not only for its unique environment but also for the way we care for it as a precious natural resource.

Green Dragon
Many of the operators on this website are continuing their commitment to eco- tourism and environmental principles by signing up to the Green Dragon scheme. 'Green Dragon' awards set quality standards for environmental good practice from energy conservation to recycling and promote awareness of the intrinsic values of the environment in which we live and work. South West Wales Tourism Partnership (operators of www.aswildasyouwantit.com) have themselves achieved Green Dragon Award Level 2.

Working towards maintaining and improving the region's environment to the benefit of all concerned and that includes our visitors. If you would like to find out more about the Green Dragon Standard, please visit www.greendragonwales.com.

WiSe Scheme
A number of operators run daily Wildlife and Dive trips in the area from various departure points with skippers and crews accredited to the WiSe scheme (Wildlife Safe) and active members of the Pembrokeshire Marine Code group. As such they adhere to the codes of conduct developed to protect the marine wildlife of Pembrokeshire whilst providing patrons with knowledge of the species being observed. www.pembrokeshiremarinecode.org.uk

Pembrokeshire Outdoor Charter Group
The Pembrokeshire Outdoor Charter Group is a collection of outdoor activity centre businesses, environmental education centres, conservation groups and organisations. Pembrokeshire Outdoor Charter Group: www.pembrokeshireoutdoors.org.uk

The Pembrokeshire Coast
The Pembrokeshire coastal region is complex. The county has 186 miles of coastline which is part of the UK's only coastal National Park. The inshore waters, coastline and adjacent maritime areas of Pembrokeshire are both nationally and internationally important for nature and landscape conservation.

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Chosen for its classic coastline and outstanding natural environment, the Gower Peninsula was the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to be designated in the UK in 1956.

West Wales Biodiversity Information Centre (WWBIC)
WWBIC is a local records centre or LRC, registered as a non-profit organisation designed to serve information on wildlife and natural history to decision makers, conservation organisations and the general public in the counties of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, an area of 5650 square kilometers. WWBIC promotes conservation of biodiversity, and enhanced public appreciation of wildlife in West Wales through an efficient information service
